Sakonnet River Water Incident In Tiverton
Around 17:00 Monday evening the Tiverton fire department initiated a search for a elderly male subject that was reported to have suffered a head injury on a sail boat and entered the waters off Common Fence Point on the Portsmouth side of the Sakonnet River. Crews set up a command post at the end of Schooner drive and a extensive rescue effort began. Multiple boats from several different agency's and US Coast Guard Helo 6004 searched the water for hours with no success finding only a hat and shoe, the search was discontinued at dark. A Coast Guard Cutter patrolled the Shipping Channel over night. The search resumed around 05:30 with 2 Boats From Portsmouth and boats from Little Compton, Bristol, Environmental Police, Rhode Island State Police, US Coast Guard and The Harbormaster, Portsmouth Special Hazards Trailer, The Bristol Police Mobile Command Truck and US Coast Guard Helo 6004 assisted as well. Crews searched for hours with no sign of the missing man, The recovery efforts ended around 13:00 Tuesday afternoon. The Coast Guard is still searching by air and water for the man. On Thursday morning around 10:30 The missing man was found deceased in the waters near the railroad bridge off Riverside Drive On the Tiverton Side of the Sakonnet River.
