Early Morning Third Alarm At Dever School In Taunton
Around 04:00 Sunday Morning Taunton Fire Dispatched a full assignment to the old Paul Dever State School At 1380 Bay Street for fire in the storage building. Heavy smoke and fire pushed from the vacant 300x100 two story building on arrival already breaking thru the roof. Due to structural involvement, the buildings location and a lack of sufficient water pressure from the hydrants on the grid a defensive operation was put in place flowing water from the snorkel and ladder 3. The exterior walls on side two collapsed causing shrubbery, trees and other brush along side the building to burn as Bristol County Control transmitted a third alarm due to numerous special calls for Engines & Brush Trucks, Multiple mutual aid companies responded from the surrounding county and staged on scene or worked brand patrol. Companies continued to flow water in which knocked down and contained the fire to the building of origin in about four hours after arrival. No injuries were reported and the building was a total loss, It Is Believed to have been started by a group of youths who lit a diversionary fire earlier in the evening to distract security while this building fire was set.
