Overnight Fire Destroys Pawtucket Restaurant
On Thursday the seasons first good accumulating snowfall caused major issues around the area. Earlier in the evening multiple car fires had firefighters scrambling, Around 12:30 Friday Morning Pawtucket Engine's 2,1,5 Tower 1 were stilled out to the area of Church And Garden Street's for a heavy smoke condition in the area, Engine 2 arrived and reported smoke showing and a possible boiler issue. As Members from engine 2 advanced lines into the 1 story Mexican bar and grill a code red or working fire was transmitted, on the working fire Engine 4 Ladder 2 and Rescue 2 were dispatched to fill in on the assignment. A gas fed fire in the basement extended to floor 1 and into the attic or cock loft area. Battalion Chief Meerbott Evacuated the building and a hand line was stretched over ladder 2 and flowed into the vent hole. Multiple special calls brought all 6 city engines and both ladder companies to the scene off duty members were called in and staffed Engine 8 and Air supply. The gas company finally cut off the gas line at the street as heavy fire broke thru the vent hole and side one threatening a one story cinder block auto shop on side four. 2 ladder pipes and multiple hand lines contained the fire to the building of origin around 6 am. Mutual aid box 2826 was struck and companies from North Providence, Central Falls, East Providence and Providence Filled in and ran incidents for Pawtucket while they worked the fire. The building was a total loss and multiple holes were burned into the first floor, This was also Chief Meerbotts last fire as Battalion Chief.
